The not-so-short cut

H&M top & cardigan • And Other Stories skirt • Veritas tights • Boo heels • Forever 21 necklace

The post titles on my blog are starting to resemble my High School English class vocabulary of when we learned about directions, roads and traffic. I should change that.

Okay, so my hair. I couldn’t do it. It’s so stupid how emotional you can get over hair, isn’t it? And the fact that I was having that monthly-thing-no-woman-likes definitely added its part to the drama-effect too. At first, my hairdresser cut off about 2 centimeters to get most damaged ends gone, but as I expected a few mini-layers had formed due to all the breakage and a lot more had to be cut off to minimize the frizz.  In the end I lost 10 centimeters in the back to get everything on an even length again and got the tips of my bangs trimmed so they can grow out further. No one actually notices that this much of the length is gone except for me, so I won’t be surprised if you guys can’t tell either, haha. But maybe that’s a good thing!

The outfit then. I made three employees of the London And Other Stories search the shop high and low to find this red mini in my size. There was also a matching cardigan and I’m still a bit sad that I chose not to bring that home with me too. I’ve gotten a lot of wear from this skirt, even though I don’t usually like to wear things that are so short. Hence why I waited until tights-season to show it off on the blog. The cardigan and top hat I’m wearing are both very old purchases from H&M. I haven’t shopped at H&M in the longest time. Admittedly, their quality has always sucked but the last few years it seemed to get only worse, and so I moved on to shop at their other stores, COS and And Other Stories, to get my wardrobe fixes. Yes, those stores are more expensive which means less new items, but they are SO much better quality-wise and I enjoy wearing what I buy there so much more too. I’ve been eyeing a gorgeous rusty-brown dress at COS that I think would be perfect for the holidays. But with a price tag of €100 and after my visit to London and buying a pair of new booties last week, I’ll have to wait until December before my budget allows any form of closet-expansion, haha!

Mooie foto's en mij valt het inderdaad niet op dat er 10cm af is van je haar. Het ziet er in ieder geval wel iets gezonder uit zo vind ik, minder droog 🙂

baby steps! Maybe this one will prepare you for "the cut" in a few months

  3. 29 October 2013 / 19:07

oh, i am the worst with getting my hair cut too! getting me to part with a 1-inch trim is like pulling teeth. i did the unthinkable a few weeks ago though and got 14 inches of my hair cut off! FOURTEEN. my neck still feels so exposed, but sometimes change is good.. right?

I get the same exact way about my hair too! It is crazy how emotional we get over our hair. Haha! Love your outfit!

  5. 29 October 2013 / 20:25

I couldn't tell that you got your haircut either! At least you got the ends trimmed! I wouldn't be able to cut my hair too short either! A good excuse is that it's going to be winter soon and you need all the warmth you can get! Also, I totally wait for tights season to wear short skirts and dresses too!
    Sincerely, Sara

I am the complete opposite when it comes to my hair! I have no problem letting it go. Maybe it's because mine grows so fast. Who knows. You look great! It always feel so nice to get rid of dead hair!!

  7. 29 October 2013 / 21:52

Gorgeous skirt! (and I really like the top and cardigan as well!) I get so frustrated when I need to throw out clothes I really like, because they were cheap and (apparently) crappy quality!

  8. 29 October 2013 / 21:53

Agreed with wanting better quality items in my closet rather than new ones. Even though everyone always says hair always grows back, I've always felt it a very personal thing- you have to live with it everyday. So I'm glad you went with your heart. You change you mind and the scissors will always be there.

Also, I really love that pencil skirt.

  9. 29 October 2013 / 22:13

I think this skirt looks awesome on you! It's so cute with those blue tights and your cozy-looking cardigan.
I couldn't really tell you had your hair cut, but I think it looks great. Hair will definitely look its best if it's cut regularly. I'm the opposite of you when it comes to cutting my hair off though. My hair grows fast and I get sick of it being long. I'm actually thinking about cutting a ton of mine off within the next couple months!

  10. 29 October 2013 / 22:16

heel leuke outfit! En goh bij mij groeit dat zo snel, soms knippen ze er bena 20 cm af :O maar dat groeit echt direct terug! Als je iets wil laten doen, gewoon eens proberen 😀

    you still look gorgeous!

That skirt is so gorgeous Nikki! It looks fantastic with your black tights. Perfect for fall!

I understand about your hair situation. I'd actually prefer mine shorter but my boyfriend loves it so I keep it long. BUT about 4 years ago now, I cut 11 INCHES off (about 28 cm). I was crying. It was pretty scary. Your hair looks fantastic at that length 🙂

I read your post yesterday and I'm so happy that a small trim seemed to help (and make you feel better!). I absolutely have the same problem as you and I'm trying to figure out why my ends are sooo fragile. You're lucky because your hair looks really lovely in all your pictures. Mine is always a complete mess, so I've recently said 'screw it' and just started blowing it out more often (not using heat for years didn't seem to help).

I'll let you know if I stumble across any sort of helpful information or products. One thing I've been trying to do is get as much moisture into the ends as possible and do weekly deep-condition treatments. Might be worth a shot!

Ik zie het ook niet echt van u haar! :p
Ik ben niet zo gehecht aan mijn haar.. Ik ga het binnen enkele maanden echt kort knippen.. 50 cm ervan af :p

    Leuke outfit!

  15. 30 October 2013 / 08:16

Your hair looks lovely – it's not really noticeable how short it is from photos, although I know just a tiny trim can feel massive sometimes, when you go to wash your hair in the shower and you can feel it has stuff missing, haha! Really like that red skirt too, it it perfect with tights and get worn lots in the winter for you! 🙂

oepsie, helemaal verliefd op dat rokje! wat mooi

  17. 30 October 2013 / 10:33

I totally understand you about being emotional about hairs!
And you're right also about buying good quality items instead of the cheaper and not good ones. The problem is when you don't have much choice in the place you live…

I love everything about this outfit, and thought your hair doesnt look that much shorter it does look quite a bit healthier. PS awesome shoes.

  19. 30 October 2013 / 13:37

I couldn't tell your hair was cut at first, but looking at it again it looks really healthy and fresh! I know how scary it can be to get a drastic haircut… and having your period on the big haircutting day doesn't help 😀 You look cute as always!

  20. 30 October 2013 / 15:09

I love the color combination in this outfit! The skirt is gorgeous and looks fantastic with black tights and booties. Your hair looks so beautiful and even though the hairdresser cut off 10 cm, we can't tell. I absolutely understand how emotional we can get over hair.
    Have a great day!

I love the pop of color being your skit! I'm also totally obsessed with red. You wear it very well! I panic every time I get my haircut or trimmed. I always feel like it looks extremely short, when no one else notices the change. I think your hair looks lovely – don't stress!

  22. 30 October 2013 / 17:40

I love your outfit! That skirt is really pretty! And you look great Nikki, your hair looks so pretty and fresh. I'm hosting a giveaway on the blog, in case you are interested 🙂 Have a great day!

Het viel me echt niet op dat je haar geknipt was. Als het maar gezond is he 😉
    Leuk rokje trouwens!

Love your outfit and girl, I didn't even notice your hair was cut. I mean, it looks GREAT but length-wise I can't see much of a difference. But you're right, you always notice when it's you.

You are so funny! I so love cutting my hair and change, and I always laugh when girls get chicken because they love their long hair! I'm growing mine out now, but know I will end up growing it and cutting it like I always do. I wish I could just keep mine long for once! Love your skirt by the way and thanks so much for stopping by today!
