Since starting my new job I’ve donated two garbage bags full of clothes and got rid of four pairs of worn out shoes. It’s fair to say that I was holding on to pieces of clothing that didn’t really fit me right anymore or that I had gotten tired of just for the sake of having something to wear. With no income for almost a year, my shopping sprees were limited and I only really bought things I really needed like new warm sweater in the winter and a pair of decent fitting jeans.
Having no shopping budget was really painful at times as I wasn’t able to jump on trends such as the all-white sneakers, off the shoulder tops, frayed jeans and so on when I really wanted to. At the same time having only about €40 monthly to spend on everything (clothes, diner dates, treats, coffees, …) really helped me get a clear view on the things I wear and the things I don’t. So after my first pay came I opened my closet and Konmari’d my way through every bit of it.
Apart from clothes and shoes, I threw out pretty much all my handbags and jewelry. I realized I had 6 handbags I never used because my tan MK and black Kate Spade really are everything I need. I had two boxes full of necklaces, but I never wear necklaces so: out. After K gave me a delicate silver ring for Christmas 6 years ago, I never wore any of my other rings: out. I used to hoard earrings, but stopped wearing most pairs years ago: out. I only kept those things that have emotional value or some kind of meaning. Something I can tell stories about later.
Letting go wasn’t easy, but after two days I already forgot what I once had.
The past year I only bought items that I 100% knew I’d wear. I feel like I’m the worlds most efficient shopper ever now, haha. I have a perfectly curated list of things I am allowed to buy still this summer. Number one on that list? A nude-pink blouse. When I spotted this one on the Massimo Dutti website I was sold. So much so that I was holding it in my hands the next day. The perks of working in Antwerp! I’ve had it for a few weeks now and have countless outfit ideas! This first look is a classic me: feminine colors, but pretty boy-ish in style. The title of the post refers to both the loose fit of these items and the letting go of all the rubbish I still had. I also look forward to sharing the other items on my shopping list with you soon. For a sneak peek you can take a look at my Instagram!
Note to self: don’t trust the boyfriend when he says the bow is still looking nice…

I’m impressed with all the clearing out you did! I need to be more ruthless with my wardrobe.

Haha boyfriend photographers, the struggle is real! Ik ben momenteel ook aan het Konmariën, ik heb dozen en zakken vol met kleren die de verkoop of inzamelbak in moeten! Zo bevrijdend! En mooie outfit natuurlijk!

Yay for finding more of your personal style and seeing the upside to less disposal income (but also happy that seems to be changing for you too since that can be stressful.Hope the job is going well!)
